The Announcment
The Response to the negative feedback
Wow, that is just fucking bullshit. I am not sure what they are thinking in the sense of removing that technology from Vail. I have been waiting for the new version of WHS to come out so that I can finally put together a kick ass server with drives that I have and can pool together. The only reason I even wanted Windows Home Server is because of that technology, I couldn't care less about anything else.
The reason for them cutting it is rather pathetic, as in, an attempt to streamline their other "low-end servers" e.g. Small Business Server and whatnot, and RAID and application compatibility would be a problem. In other words, fuck consumers, its all about business.
Well Fuck RAID, I mean RAID is a good technology, for business platforms, but consumers have a lot of extra drives around they want to plug in, and anyone who knows raid will know that you can't just plug in any drives, they have to be the same size and whatnot. What about JBOD? Well, lose a disk, and lose your data... DE was powerful in which you can choose what folders to be duplicated and to be able to throw in any disk, I was actually hoping to see DE released with Windows 8.
Basically, Microsoft is giving the finger to everyone who loves DE, and especially those who build their own home servers like me, because they are expecting their "OEM partners" to come up with a 3rd party solution... fuck that shit.
The funny thing is that people tried to petition to bring it back, on Microsoft Connect... low and behold, that page is gone! Guess Microsoft doesn't want to hear it, so much for customer feedback.
Apparently, the page is there now, 2179 votes yes to 30 votes no... WOW!
Well, I am pissed, and this is a pathetic move by Microsoft. Vail is worthless now to me, as it is to a lot of other people...
I wonder if Linux has something similar...
Oh, and to Microsoft and the Windows Home Server team, I think this image sums up my response to you

P.S. I would recommend reading the comments on those blogs, people are pissed. Also, check out Long's post, it's freakin great!
