The Purpose of this topic is to setup your linksys router to allow remote access either by remote desktop or remote assistance. To my knowledge there are different versions that may appear different, but all of the basic steps are the same.
In order to access your Linksys router, you have to access it through your browser. In your web browser go to the website http://192.168.1.1 (or you can just click here) this will pull up a dialog box asking for a user name and password.

Leave the user name blank and in the Password type "admin". This will bring you to the routers configuration screen.

Once you are at this screen, click the 'Advanced' tab (circled in the picture). This will bring you to the advanced settings.

Next you want to click on the 'Forwarding' tab as circled.
As you are at the forwarding page, you will notice a few things like specific port and whatnot. The one thing before you continue is figuring out your computers IP address, the easiest way is through the command windows.
So before we continue, click the start button and then select 'Run' and when the Run box comes up asking what to open, type 'cmd'.
This will bring up a dialog box similar to that of old MS-DOS if you are familiar with it. At the command prompt type in 'ipconfig' which will display your current IP configuration.

As you can see, my IP address is 192.168.1.150. Basically we just needed to know the last number '150' so we know where to forward the connections to.
Going back to the browser screen you have all of the information to be inputed.

This gives you an idea on what to input. in the ports section just put '3389' in both boxes. Make sure Protocol TCP and Protocol UDP are checked along with Enable. Since my IP address is 192.168.1.150 just put '150' in the box and then hit apply.
Now you computer is all setup for remote access, but most importantly you have to know your WAN IP Address if you wish to access your computer via Remote Desktop Connection. so after you have setup the forwarding click the orange 'setup' tab and then click the 'status' tab and it will show you your IP address. For example, mine is 68.4.77.244

Please do note that Firewalls and other programs may interfere, or your IP Address may change, either on your router or the IP number the router assigned the computer.
